Canada’s former Ambassador to the United States and former Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Derek Burney, spoke at Ottawa’s Rideau Club about the future of Canada’s relationship with the United States. As leader of the team that negotiated the first Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and NAFTA, Mr. Burney discussed the risks and implications that must be considered when working with President Trump’s administration.
Mr. Burney noted President Trump’s persistent emphasis on growing the economy and providing security for the American people. Canada can emerge stronger in the world of Trump, but must be prepared to respond to the Americans and their negotiating tactics.
Norton Rose Fulbright Canada and the Centre for Trade Policy and Law at Carleton University hosted the event.
Prospectus consultants Martin-Pierre Pelletier and Keelan Green attended Mr. Burney’s presentation. Prospectus Associates is a full-service Canadian government relations firm.
